Laser Therapy

Here at The Podiatry Experts we are constantly researching and investing in new techniques to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. Our Laser Therapy Program uses the latest technologies to address acute and chronic pain.

Laser therapy is a targeted, gentle and effective treatment for a wide variety of joint and muscle pains. Laser therapy is used to address pain and inflammation around ligaments, soft tissue and joints that may also be restricted in range of movement. Laser therapy is often a go-to treatment for patients suffering chronic ongoing conditions that are not improving with other treatment modalities.

Physiological Effects of Laser:

  • · Rapid Cell Growth: Laser accelerates cellular reproduction and growth.
  • · Faster Wound Healing: Stimulates fibroblast development in damaged tissue.
  • · Reduced Fibrous Tissue Formation: Reduces the formation of scar tissue.
  • · Anti-Inflammatory Joint Action: Laser reduces swelling caused by bruising or joint inflammation, which improves mobility.
  • · Increased Vascular Activity: Laser stimulates lymph and blood circulation, to provide the affected tissue with the best possible circulation.

Slow or damaged tissue can result in “numb” limbs or regions. Laser can speed the process of nerve cell reconnection to bring numb areas back to life by increasing the amplitude of action potentials to optimize muscle action.

Tissue Healing

  • · Open Wounds
  • · Soft Tissue Injuries (Sprains/Strains)
  • · Repetitive work traumas, tenosynovitis
  • · Hematomas
  • · Non displaced or microfractures

Pain Control

  • · Trigger Points
  • · Muscle, ligament, tendon tears

What are the indications for using Laser Therapy?

Problematic conditions that laser works well for:

  • · Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy
  • · Fibromyalgia
  • · Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • · Osteoarthritis
  • · Neuropathies with numbness

How long does it take for laser to work?

  • · Acute pain can be reduced in the first 2-4 treatments
  • · Chronic pain, up to 4 -5 treatments before any reduction
  • · Wounds, burns and pressure sores and other skin disorders should see some response in 5-7 treatments
  • · Joint, muscle, ligament and tendon conditions should see some response within 6 treatments.
